A shock absorber is a professional device that is installed on a car to absorb shocks, shocks and dampen vibrations. The modern market offers many types of shock absorbers. All of them differ among themselves in the nature of the action, filling and the construction itself. However, gas-oil shock absorbers are the most popular, which, in fact, we will consider in detail today.

Advantages of a gas-oil shock absorber over other types:
- At high temperatures, they retain their original data (practically do not overheat);
- The ability to change the compression range - constantly adjusts to the speed and type of driving;
- Moderate comfort on any surface;
- Increased rigidity.
Gas-oil shock absorber, unlike the oil one, reacts perfectly to the unevenness of the road. It is designed mainly for SUVs and sports cars. Significantly improves the maneuverability and stability of these cars even at the highest speeds.

The two-tube shock absorber is suitable for both city and country roads. Its configuration is quite simple and consists of a cylinder (divided into two planes: pneumatic and hydraulic) and a rod connected to it inside. When the rod enters the shock absorber, oil is pumped into the chamber through bypass valves, and gas, in turn, through a floating partition, further softening its operation.

It should be noted that the pressure supported by the gas-oil shock absorber is approx4-20 atmospheres. A more accurate indicator is set for each car individually and depends on:
- mass of the vehicle;
- estimated speed of movement;
- condition of the roads on which traffic will be carried out (city roads, primer).
Given all the previous data, car service specialists can run different concentrations of gas in the shock absorbers of the front and rear wheels. At the same time, its volume in the front shock absorber may be slightly lower than in the rear, and vice versa. Everything will depend on the qualifications of the master, the wishes of the car owner and, accordingly, the design properties of the car itself.

Importantly!The front right and left wheels must always be inflated equally. Disregarding this rule can lead to serious consequences, namely, imbalance and complete uncontrollability of the car.
The impact of a broken shock absorber on a car
A characteristic failure of the shock absorber is precisely the leakage of oil from under the rod, which occurs due to the wear of the seals. In order to extend the service life of this part (located between the rod and the cylinder (body) of the shock absorber itself), it is necessary to exclude the ingress of dirt. For this, a special anther is installed on the shock absorber.

In addition, a broken shock absorber negatively affects both the suspension and the car as a whole:
The upper supports wear out, which significantly affects the smoothness of the car and the vibration that is transmitted to the body - there are extraneous knocks, creaks, etc. in the suspension;
The car starts to "steer" to the sides, it is worse to obey the steering wheel. It often "sweeps" when rearranging and when cornering, there is additional swaying of the body when starting and braking;
Aquaplaning begins much earlier - at a speed of about 15 km / h less than that of a repaired car. Tire wear increases by a quarter;
The wear of other elements of the suspension accelerates - on each bump, all hinged joints andsilent blocksperform more oscillations. The load on the suspension springs increases - a spring with a broken shock absorber is compressed more often, which reduces its service life by almost 2 times. Passengers are more lulled;
An additional load appears on the brake discs, pads and guide calipers.
WARNING
The slightest breakdown of this extremely important part will contribute to the failure of the entire vehicle. If you notice at least one of these problems, immediately replace your shock absorber (installation must be carried outONLYknowledgeable master).
So, although the shock absorber is an important part of the suspension, you should not transfer all responsibility for the controllability and stability of the car on the road to it. It is just a so-called assistant that makes driving safer and more comfortable, softening the impact of road irregularities.
