The structure of the car

Audio summary of the article

Будова автомобіля

In addition to the ability to drive a car and obey the rules of the road, every driver needs to have an idea of how the car is arranged, what components it consists of and how it works. This knowledge will help the driver understand what problems may arise during the operation of the car and how they can be prevented.

There is a huge numberbrands and modelspassenger cars, but they are practically identical in structure.Any passenger car consists of several main parts: body, transmission, engine, chassis and engine control systems and electrical equipment. Each of these parts consists of many details, but for the average driver it is enough to know the main points. Basic knowledge of the car will help in some situations to do without the help of service center specialists, which can save the car owner's budget. Let's take a look at these highlights of each car component individually.

Car body

Кузов автомобіля

Car bodyis one of the most important parts of the car, performing several functions at the same time. First, heis a supporting structure, thanks to which all nodes and aggregates in the car structure are fixed and connected. Secondly, the body gives the car its appearance and protects its internal parts from external influences.

As an interesting fact, it can be noted that in the first decades of the development of the automobile industry, instead of a body, a frame was used, to which all the parts were attached. However, during the development of the automotive industry, the designers decided to replace the frame with a body in order to reduce the total weight of the car. This is how the second name of the body appeared - a lightweight frame structure.

But this applies specifically to passenger cars. But some SUVs still have a frame structure that is much more durable and practical than a body structure and allows you to install such tuning aspower bumpers,reinforced thresholds, largeelevator setsetc.

A modern body consists of several main components, such as:

  • car roof;
  • hood compartmentfor placing the power unit;
  • front and rear spars- strong metal beams that are attached to the bottom and act as suspension supports;
  • the bottom- various reinforcements and attachments are welded to it, such as front and rear fenders, hood, trunk lid and doors.

It is important to understand thatbody typeis not only a functional part of the car, but also its business card. Therefore, car manufacturers pay special attention to the design and quality of the body to create a car that will be both comfortable and functional, as well as attractive from the outside and will be able to satisfy the needs of every buyer.

Chassis

Ходова частина

This system is key when driving on the road. Sheconsists of many parts, units and aggregates. Despite this, it is important for novice drivers to understand only the main elements - front and rear suspension, wheels and drive axles.

Special attention should be paid to the suspension - it is what "connects" the car body to the road. Without going into detail, there aretwo basic types of pendants- dependent and independent. Dependent suspensions have wheels of one axis, rigidly connected to each other. While independent suspensions provide softer behavior of each wheel on the road and are more common on new cars due to their efficiency and affordability. In addition, the front independent suspension contributes to improved handling and driving comfort.

Here are somethe main components of the suspension, which can be found in almost any car:

  1. Shock absorbers
  2. Springs
  3. To lose
  4. Ball bearings
  5. Transverse stability stabilizers
  6. Springs
  7. Wheel bearings
  8. Various fasteners and bolts

Transmission

Ходова частина

Transmission- the main part of the car responsible for the transmission of torque from the engine to the wheels. In the general sense, a transmission is called a gearbox, but it consists of several components:

  • Gear box- the main element of the transmission, which is responsible for shifting gears and transmitting torque from the engine to the wheels. The gearbox can be mechanical, automatic or variator type.
  • Bridgesis a part of the transmission that transmits torque from the gearbox to the wheels of the car. The location of the bridge depends on the drive of the car. If the car has front-wheel drive, the bridge is mounted in the gearbox. If rear-wheel drive, the bridge is located in the rear of the car.
  • Cardan shaft- connecting element between the gearbox and bridges. It transmits torque from the gearbox to the axles. At the same time, the cardan shafts must be balanced to eliminate vibrations during movement.
  • Engine- the power unit of the car, which is responsible for transferring energy to the wheels. The engine produces energy by burning fuel and transferring the generated thermal energy through the transmission. The engine can be gasoline, diesel or electric.

Each element of the transmission performs an important function and has its own characteristics. For example, the gearbox determines the number of gears and the gear ratio, which makes it possible to reduce the load on the engine and ensure more economical use of fuel. Bridges, in turn, transmit the torque from the gearbox to the wheels of the car. The drive shaft provides the connection between the gearbox and the axles, and the engine transmits power through the transmission to the wheels.

Steering system

Рульова система

Steering systemallows the driver to control the direction of the car.It consists ofsteering mechanism, steering column, steering rack and steering rods. The driver turns the steering wheel, which is connected to the steering column, which in turn is connected to the steering rack.Steering rackmoves the front wheels of the car in the desired direction.

In addition, the braking system can also be attributed to this section, because it also directly affects the driving of the car.Braking system, in turn, ensures the car stops and prevents its movement if necessary. Sheconsists ofbrake master cylinder, brake pads, discs or drums and brake hoses.

When the driver presses the brake pedal, the brake master cylinder sends hydraulic fluid through the brake hoses to the brake pads or brake discs. This creates friction that slows or stops the car.

As with other vehicle components, the steering and braking systems require regular maintenance and inspection to ensure they are working properly. It is recommended to check the conditionbrake padsandbrake discs, as well as the hydraulic power steering system, which helps the driver turn the steering wheel easily and effortlessly. Only with proper maintenance can these systems work at their best and ensure a safe and comfortable car ride.

Electrical equipment

Електрообладнання автомобіля

Modern cars are unthinkable without electrical equipment. All units and elements of the machine work exclusively thanks to electricity. Here is a list of the main elements of the car's electrical equipment:

  1. Accumulator or rechargeable battery (AKB)- is a device that powers car devices and starts the engine. When the car is not running, the battery provides power for all additional devices, such as headlights, radio and others.
  2. Generator- is a device that ensures stable power supply of the car's electrical system and charging of the battery.
  3. Engine control system- this is a control unit and various sensors that monitor the operation of the engine.
  4. Electricity consumers- these are various devices that consume electrical energy, such asheadlights, power windows, ignition system, wipers, systemmultimedia, air conditioner, etc.
  5. Wiring- this is a large number of wires that pass throughout the car and form the on-board network of the car. It ensures the connection of all sources of electrical energy consumption in the machine.
