The next-generation Ford Ranger marks Ford's commitment to compete in the mid-size pickup segment in markets around the world. Still, the Michigan-based automaker doesn't want to let the Ranger be just another ordinary pickup truck for the masses. Now the company has announced the launchcool off-road version, which many have guessed - the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor.
Like the previous one from the Raptor family - the Bronco Raptor, the Ranger will be the most powerful modification of the model ever created. Herd of392 horsepower and 430 Nmof torque is provided by a 3.0-liter engineTwin-turbo EcoBoost V6, tuned by Ford Performance. The engine uses a cylinder block made of cast iron with compacted graphite, the strength and rigidity of which is 75% higher than that of cast iron traditionally used in cylinder block castings.
10-speed automatic transmissionsends torque to the rear (or all four) wheels, and the engine is tuned with individual boost profiles for each gear ratio. It is also equippeddelay protection system, which is included in sports mode. It can keep the turbines spinning at high speeds for up to three seconds after the driver releases the accelerator pedal. It is designed to keep the engine on boost when shifting gears or when the driver adjusts the degree of pressure on the gas pedal while driving off-road.
Will be available in some markets2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine. Like many details related to the new global Ranger platform, Raptor engine options will vary depending on the country of delivery. The pickup will be built for both the left- and right-hand drive market. Today, the company is targeting a global audience, so some details may change before it goes on sale.
The Ranger Raptor also comes withactive exhaust system, which allows the driver to specify the exhaust sound level. Four modes are available, starting with quiet for use in crowded places and ending with an analogue of direct current with a loud bass sound.
Like other vehicles in the Ford Raptor series, the Ranger received significant suspension improvements over the base version. The body rack, cargo compartment and niche for the spare wheel are reinforced, andstrut shock absorbers, bumpers and rear shock absorber bracket received unique frames designed for work in difficult off-road conditions.
The upper and lower suspension arms are also completely new for the Raptor, as wellthe front and rear suspension have been redesignedto increase the stroke, so that the SUV can move better at high speeds over rough terrain.Shock absorbersFOX Live Valvemounted on all four wheels and filled with Teflon oil, which reduces friction by 50% compared to the previous model used in the Raptor cars. Perhaps more importantly, the shocks are tuned to provide maximum damping in the last 25 percent of their travel. This is done in order for the pickup truck to avoid serious impacts and falls as best as possible.
The Ranger Raptor draws inspiration from desert racing, but Ford also wanted it to handle other responsibilities.Front and rear locked differentialscoupled with an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case should help with that. Different control modes are designed to solve difficult situations. Normal mode is for normal driving, while other modes include Rock Crawl, Sand and Dirt/Ruts for typical off-road conditions. And the new Baja mode is designed to set the pickup up for fast desert driving and is for off-road use only.From an aesthetic point of view, Raptor received a large inscription of the brand in the front, extendedwheel archesand aluminum side panelsrunning boards, as well as other off-road design elements. Two 17-inch wheel options are available with 33-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires.

Ford hasn't been giving up lately. Between his efforts to go electric with the F-150 Lightning and his investment in the high-performance Bronco models, he's made huge strides in the SUV world. It's easy to forget that just a few years ago, the company had practically given up on cars in the US and was seriously lagging behind competitors in other markets.
Generally newFord Ranger Raptor may appeal to many. It's packed with a big, powerful engine and all the off-road equipment you'll need, and the chassis and suspension are tuned to make quick work of any desert or swamp you care to cross.
