Audi showed an electrical SUV with portal bridges based on Q6 Sportback

Someone might think that the car in the photos is the work of some famous tuning studio, the result of Photoshop, or simply a picture generated by a neural network. But this is a real concept from the Audi company, or rather from the sports department of Audi Sport, which was presented on the official social networks of the brand.

Audi engineers took the popular electric crossover Q6 Sportback E-Tron and radically improved it for off-road.

The key tuning here, of course, is to install full portal bridges. Such a solution, to put it mildly, is not often found on production cars. First of all, we can mention such legends as Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4², Hummer H1 or Unimog.

Technical characteristics

Portal bridges make it possible to significantly increase the car's ground clearance, in addition, the wheel axle is located higher than the wheel axle and is connected to it through a gearbox. This design has a negative effect on handling and acceleration, but it is great for heavy off-roading.

You can also notice the "evil" Venom Power Terra Hunter X/T off-road rubber, extended wheel arches, a modified bumper with better entry angles, as well as a roof rack and additional LED optics in the bumper and on the roof.

The automaker did not provide information about the powerplant of the concept. But we can assume that it is based on the charged version of the SQ6 E-Tron. It is equipped with two electric motors with a total power of 483 hp. This gives the electric car all-wheel drive, acceleration to hundreds in 4.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 230 km/h, limited by electronics. At the same time, the battery lasts for 607 km in the WLTP cycle.

The future of the concept

At this stage, Audi does not say anything about the possibility of serial production of such an electric SUV. It is also worth noting that spy photos of the camouflaged Q6 E-Tron concept, when it was tested in Germany, got into the Internet last year. It's obviously the same car.

In general, the craftsmen from Audi carried out a rather comprehensive refinement of the crossover. Therefore, its off-road potential should be very high.
