The official presentation of the first frame pickup Kia called Tasman took place. The novelty belongs to medium-sized pickup trucks and is designed to compete with such bestsellers as Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
Technical characteristics
Tasman will be produced in several configurations:
- double cabin with a standard body;
- single cabin with an elongated body;
- commercial model with on-board platform.

In terms of dimensions, the pickup turned out to be one of the largest in its class. The length of the car is 5.41 m, and the wheelbase is 3.27 m. At the same time, Kia promises an excellent carrying capacity of 1195 kg. And the volume of the cargo compartment is 1173 liters.

The pickup truck has a two-link independent suspension at the front, and a solid axle with springs at the rear. Kia also used Sensitive Damper Control (SDC) and Hydraulic Rebound Stop technologies, which increase the car's handling and level of comfort.

The pickup truck has four-wheel drive with the ability to select operating modes for different surfaces: sand, dirt, snow or stones. In the maximum configuration, the car is equipped with off-road tires, an electronic differential lock system (e-LD) and has a ground clearance of 252 mm. The company will also release the most simple configuration with rear-wheel drive on the market.
Power plants
Depending on the market, two power units will be available:
- Gasoline turbocharged 2.5 l with a capacity of 281 hp;
- Turbodiesel 2.2 l with a capacity of 210 hp.
According to company representatives, with a diesel engine, the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds. An 8-speed automatic transmission is offered as the main transmission. But there are also versions with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Equipment
To enhance practicality and safety, the Tasman is equipped with driver assistance systems that include lane departure warning, blind spot warning and park assist. Especially when parking with a trailer. This is complemented by cameras that show what is happening at ground level during off-road driving.

If the outside of the pickup has a deliberately brutal and futuristic look, then the designers decided to make the interior more familiar. The central element is three monitors combined into a single cluster, which acts as a dashboard and multimedia system.

Prices for the car will be known after it enters the market, which is scheduled for the first half of 2025.
