Toyota officially introduced the new Land Cruiser FJ — the youngest member of the off-road family. The premiere took place at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, and the start of sales is expected in mid-2026.
The model complements the Land Cruiser line along with the 300, 250 and 70 series, bringing to life the philosophy of the classic off-roader — simplicity, reliability and readiness for any adventure.
Update of the Land Cruiser line
The Land Cruiser FJ is designed to expand access to true off-roading. This is the most compact member of the family, which will retain the frame structure, classic proportions and characteristic design.
Toyota aims to make the SUV more accessible to a younger audience that wants a real Land Cruiser, but in a more convenient, compact format.
Platform and construction
The new Land Cruiser FJ 2026 is built on the IMV 0 frame chassis, familiar from the Toyota Hilux Champ pickup truck. It is an architecture that guarantees strength, ease of repair and durability even in the most difficult conditions.
The short wheelbase improves maneuverability, and the classic frame allows you to feel confident on mountain roads and sandy areas. Thus, the Land Cruiser FJ retains the trademark character of a real "cruiser" in a more compact body.
Design and interior
The Land Cruiser FJ follows the style of the Prado 250, but with even more expressive proportions and simple shapes. Short overhangs, a high hood and a massive body kit create the image of a strong and functional SUV.

Buyers will be offered two options for front optics — round retro headlights or rectangular LED modules. Such a detail emphasizes individuality and allows you to choose between a classic and a modern look.
The Land Cruiser FJ interior is made in a minimalist style: wear-resistant materials, ergonomic switches, ease of maintenance. This car is not created for gloss, but for daily trips, trips and expeditions.
Technical characteristics
Under the hood is the proven 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine, known for its durability in Hilux and Fortuner models. This is an atmospheric motor without complex electronics, which is easily serviced even in field conditions.

Toyota is preparing a hybrid version for certain markets. It will keep the frame architecture, but will get a mild hybrid setup to reduce fuel consumption.
Price, positioning and results
The expected starting price in Japan is between $30,000 and $33,000. This will make the Land Cruiser FJ Toyota's most affordable frame SUV aimed at practical buyers.
The model is positioned between the Hilux Champ and the Prado 250, offering reliability and true off-road design at a reasonable price. Competitors will be the Suzuki Jimny XL and some crossovers, but the FJ is advantageously distinguished by a real frame platform.
Land Cruiser FJ 2026 is a return to the roots of the Toyota brand. It combines simple mechanics, compact dimensions and functional design, remaining a true SUV for daily adventures.
The official start of sales is planned for 2026. Toyota will announce exact specifications closer to the start of production.
