MG Motor has officially unveiled its first MG U9 frame pickup, revealing full specifications and equipment. The novelty was a serious application of the brand to compete with the leaders of the segment — Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, combining a powerful power plant with unique body transformation capabilities.

From the outside, the pickup truck looks brutal and modern, but the main revolution is inside. The top version received the Smart Hatch (Mid-Gate) system — an electronic retractable rear wall of the cabin. The rear seats fold into a flat floor, which allows you to increase the volume of the cargo compartment from 1,200 to 1,600 liters and to transport goods up to 2.4 meters long inside the cabin.

In addition to practicality, engineers focused on comfort and passability. The rear suspension is independent multi-link (Multi-Link), which provides better handling than classic springs.

Technical characteristics of MG U9 2025

Under the hood, there is an unrivaled 2.5-liter turbodiesel that produces 160 kW (217 hp) and 520 N·m of torque. It is paired with a reliable 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The main trump card of the novelty on off-road is the all-wheel drive system with three locks: front and rear inter-wheel differentials, as well as an inter-axle lock in the transfer box. Traction force is 3500 kg, which corresponds to the gold standard of the class.

Prices and configurations

The pickup will be available in three configurations: Explore, Explore X and Explore Pro. The price in the Australian market starts at $52,990. To immediately attract the off-roader audience, MG is offering buyers a bonus of $1,000 on branded accessories, which already include power arches, electric shutters and luggage racks.
