The Mercedes-Benz company is working on creating a smaller version of the iconic G-Wagen, which will become more affordable for buyers. According to rumors, the new SUV can get a fully electric power plant.
The company's CEO Ola Kellenius confirmed the development of a compact G-Wagen as early as the 2023 IAA in Munich. He then declared that "good things should wait."

What is known about "Gelendwagen's younger brother"
At a recent meeting with investors, representatives of Mercedes officially confirmed the development of a compact G-Class. At the same time, details regarding the design, technical characteristics and date of entry into the market remain secret for now. Currently, 2026 appears in the mass media as the most likely date of appearance.
Rumors indicate that the novelty will be equipped exclusively with an electric power plant. If confirmed, it will probably get a platform similar to the electric version of the G-Wagen. However, Mercedes has not yet provided official confirmation of this information.

A new approach to design
The small G-Class will most likely be very similar to the full-size version. The company also plans to significantly change the overall design of all its models. In the future, Mercedes-Benz aims to reduce the visual differences between electric cars and traditional gasoline and hybrid cars. Different powertrains will be options, not separate models. The first car to be created using this approach will be the CLA-Class.
It is worth noting that Mercedes-Benz already has an electrified G-Wagen in its lineup - the G580 model with EQ technology, which develops 579 hp. and 1165 Nm of torque. Although the most popular among fans remains the AMG G 63 version with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a capacity of 577 hp.

However, the release of a compact Gelendwagen will be a profitable step for the company, as it will allow to attract new customers and make the iconic SUV more accessible to a wider audience.
