Chevrolet has turned the Silverado EV electric pickup truck into a powerful racing SUV for competition. The new Silverado EV ZR2 is built to compete in The Mint 400, one of Nevada's toughest off-road races, billed as a mini version of the legendary Baja 1000.
Electric pickup truck for extreme off-road racing

The main feature of the sports version of the ZR2 was a new three-motor power unit developing 1085 hp. and 15,600 Nm of torque. For comparison, the standard electric Silverado is equipped with a pair of electric motors that have a total of 750 hp. and 1064 Nm. The difference is amazing!
To prepare the pickup truck for racing, Chevrolet engineers equipped it with:
- Lifted suspension with adaptive Multimatic shock absorbers;
- Suspension stroke increased to 33 cm for improved passability;
- Protection of the bottom from hitting stones and obstacles;
- Locked differentials for maximum adhesion to the surface.
In addition, the pickup truck received 37-inch off-road tires, which are superior to the 35-inch tires of the new version of the Silverado EV Trail Boss, which goes on sale this summer.

Racing tests and prospects for serial models
Chad Hall Racing will field the Silverado EV ZR2, as well as its gasoline versions, the Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2. According to team owner and driver Chad Hall:
"A race like The Mint 400 wears the equivalent of a full life cycle of a car in extreme conditions."
Chevrolet emphasizes that the experience gained in racing is used during the development of production models. Yes, the Silverado EV Trail Boss will receive a factory lift, towing hooks and a special off-road mode.

The Silverado EV ZR2 is a demonstration of the capabilities of electric SUVs, and a step towards a future where powerful EV pickups can compete with traditional gasoline monsters.
