South Korean automaker Kia, after the high-profile debut of its Tasman frame pickup truck, is not resting on its laurels and is considering expanding its model range. Namely, the creation of a frame SUV based on the Tasman, which should compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
The launch of the Kia Tasman in early 2025 was a real sensation. Designed to meet the needs of both commercial use and outdoor activities, the pickup truck immediately attracted attention with its brutal design and powerful performance. The Tasman is currently available with two powertrains:
- 2.5-liter T-GDi turbocharged gasoline engine — this engine produces 281 horsepower and 421 Nm of torque, providing the pickup with excellent dynamics and traction.
- 2.2-liter CRDi turbo diesel — this engine offers 210 horsepower and an impressive 441 Nm of torque, making it the perfect choice for heavy-duty and off-road applications.
Both engines are mated to a modern 8-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and quick gear changes. Buyers are offered a choice between rear-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (4WD), the latter of which is equipped with a reduction gear and a differential lock, which significantly expands the Tasman's off-road capabilities.

If the Tasman is successful on the market, a frame SUV based on it may well appear. Independent designers have already begun to visualize this idea, presenting their renders showing the potential appearance of the future Prado competitor.
In their images, Kia's new frame SUV retains much of the brutal exterior of the original pickup, especially the front end with its distinctive grille and powerful headlights. However, instead of an open cargo compartment, it has the closed body of a classic SUV.
Some renders also show increased ground clearance, powerful wheel arches, and large wheels with aggressive off-road treads, which emphasizes its off-road potential.
Will Kia Tasman in the SUV version be able to compete with such a powerful player as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado? This remains an open question at the moment. However, given the good technical characteristics of the pickup truck, as well as Kia's potentially more attractive pricing policy, the brand's frame SUV has every chance of gaining market share.
