The current format of Ukrainian license plates for passenger cars was installed in 2004 and is adjusted in 2015. In 2015, the left part of the number changed when the flag and the country index received a blue background, while the old samples were on white. The registration plate itself consists of a four -digit number and alphabetic indices (the region on the left and the unique right). The second two letters do not belong to the place of registration of the car, but are a series of numbers that allows you to expand the number of registration.
Since 2020, electric vehicles have been issued license plates with beech z in the series code. And since May 2022, the letter y is used instead. In addition, drawing signs for electric cars now have a green color instead of black in order to make it easier to understand that you have a car without a DVZ.
In addition, some trailers (semi -trailers, in particular) can see the letter F in the series code.
Let's return to the first two characters - the indices of the regions. In the rooms by 2004. Another format was used where each area had its own digital code (1 to 24), consisting of two digits. The codes were assigned to each area of the alphabetical order.
The current indexes (since 2004) of the numbers in the oblasts do not have a close connection with the name of the region, and since 2013 they have been expanded with new codes, where the first symbol A, B or C was replaced by K, H, and respectively.

- yellow - are issued for buses and taxi.

- white without the identification of the country and the region of the region - the license plates of diplomatic services.
- black - used by military (Armed Forces).

green - are issued for volunteer organizations working with the army.
You can also find standard signs of a standard format with a difference in the last 3 characters . Such numbers are accepted since 2020 and are issued:
- (rescuers) SES Civil Defense Service (Orange Cross and Letter E);
- Border Service (green cross and letter B);
- National Guard (yellow emblem with trident and letter g).
currently these are the main relevant numbers in the areas that you can meet on cars of Ukraine, not counting different service, souvenir and registered numbers.
