Toyota has officially unveiled the new generation of the Hilux — this time with no camouflage and no speculation. The world premiere took place on November 10, 2025, in Thailand, where the Japanese automaker introduced three versions of the pickup: a classic diesel, a mild hybrid, and the fully electric Hilux BEV.
The new model marks the ninth generation of the legendary off-roader, combining Toyota’s renowned reliability with modern technology and Land Cruiser-inspired design.
Ninth-generation Hilux: new design and three powertrain options
The refreshed Toyota Hilux keeps its traditional off-road DNA but looks much more modern. The front end now features slim LED headlights, a wide grille with bold TOYOTA lettering, and a sculpted hood. The taillights are now vertical, and a small spoiler has been added to the tailgate.
Inside, the pickup reaches a new level of comfort. It features a digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch multimedia display, premium interior materials, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite. The Hilux has become closer to premium SUVs while retaining its utility and toughness.
Technical Specifications of Toyota Hilux 2026
Under the hood, there’s a proven 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine with mild-hybrid technology, delivering 204 hp and up to 500 Nm of torque. Some markets will keep the 2.7-liter petrol engine, while the biggest news is the electric Hilux BEV — a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive and a 59.2 kWh battery offering up to 300 km of range.
The new Hilux is part of Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy that combines diesel, hybrid, and electric technologies. The pickup retains its ladder-frame toughness while becoming more advanced and eco-friendly.
